Stop Homeless Crime Initiative
The Stop Homeless Crime Initiative has two parts:
First, an overnight camping ban, that also prohibits personal items, camping/sleeping materials, and people from sleeping in public areas within Pahrump.
Second, a specialized security force employed directly by Nye County, not under the control of the sheriff, so as to focus on homeless crime and safety in parks, public areas, and highly populated areas.
The first part, Bill 2025-01, passed the Nye County Board of Commissioners on May 6, 2025 and is now Pahrump Town Ordinance # 73.
The second part is to create Nye County Rangers, a specialized security force with powers of Peace Officers (full arrest powers) to enforce Ordinance 73 and also to protect against crimes in parks and public areas.
If passed, this would:
1. Put RANGERS on the street to stop homeless camps
2. Place RANGERS in parks and public areas where our children play to prevent homeless crime
3. Assist Code Enforcement in removing homeless camps
4. Patrol high crime areas to report and protect against homeless crime
5. Stop illegal homeless camping
