Nye County Commissioners will vote to hand up to $800 million in taxpayer money as a “prime applicant” in a proposed new joint business that would leave Nye County taxpayers in joint ownership of a new race track to be situated in Pahrump – paid for initially by taxpayers with no known investment from anywhere else. (see the proposal here)
On the agenda is the creation of this “partnership” between Nye County and Thrill One Sports & Entertainment.
Thrill One was recently purchased by the investment firm Fiume Capital, a company managed by the Fertitta family that is involved with Station Casinos (click here) (click here) along with Juggernaut Capital Partners (click here).
The new partnership hopes to use federal assistance designed to boost battery powered cars under a White House initiative.
There are very few details about the partnership in the commission agenda, including how much profit (if any) the county might get from the joint partnership. Also, how much liability taxpayers have is a mystery.
The initial funding request letter can be seen below, and is expected to be signed in this form if commissioners vote to sign it on next Tuesday’s meeting.
This is the letter that Nye County Commissioners will be asked to sign
